I blame the Obama Administration

Chicago has big problems. Huge debts are just one small item.

Violence is on the rise.  2016 was a record year with almost 750 murders, thousands of shootings, robberies, and now an attack by 4 thugs on an innocent young white man, tortured for hours on Facebook.

The mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emmanuel, is Pres Obama’s former chief of staff.  Pres Obama is from Chicago, and learned under the progressive and violent hands of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright and members of the Weather Underground. Pres Obama has frequently spoken against the police, encouraging anger against police shootings, even when justified. His progressive actions have uprooted the fragile stability of the Middle East, even after going on an apology tour. For someone who received a Nobel Peace Prize, he has proven to create much violence both domestically and abroad.

Since the days of Al Capone, Chicago has been a cesspool. It is sadly a common sight to see a politician, including governors and mayors, end up in prison. Today, there are over 70,000 active gang members in the Windy City.

The chief of police in Chicago recently noted that most of the violent crime is committed by a small group of repeat offenders. The problem, he noted, is that liberal judges release them early from prison time after time.

And these are just part of the problem with Progressive Liberals in Chicago. Note, I am not talking about classical liberals, but progressives. Classical liberals included people like, Martin Luther King jr, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Sam Nunn, Joe Lieberman, etc.

Progressives, however, seek power through big government. Big government that enslaves people, such as in our welfare culture, creates opportunities for more big government and control. It has made the Clinton’s multi-millionaires by preying on the kindness of those wanting to help a charity, but then using the money to promote their agenda.  As with the Chicago politicians, the Clintons have cheated and ravaged their way to power on the backs of the poor.

Decades of such progressivism has brain washed a large portion of the masses to continually vote for those who keep them enslaved. Why do 90 percent of blacks vote Democrat, when most blacks are against abortion, for school choice, and hate many of the core positions of the progressive movement? It is because progressives know how to promote their agenda in a way that scares people away from the opposition. Note how Harry Reid recently noted that he lied about Mitt Romney’s taxes simply because no one else wanted to do it. This is no different than the promise that you can keep your doctor and medical plan, or that Benghazi was all about a video.

So it is in Chicago. Gun violence has been blamed on Indiana’s pro-gun laws. In reality, a 2013 CDC study showed that greater gun control leads to greater gun violence, and lesser gun control dramatically reduces gun violence.  It also noted that legal gun owners stopped crimes over 2 million times a year.  But this is an inconvenient truth.

Progressives push global warming/cooling/change, and insist we spend trillions of dollars to save the earth, even when such efforts will not really make a difference to global temperatures between now and the year 2100. The only thing such efforts does is turn Al Gore and other progressives into multi-millionaires.

And so, the problems of Chicago is a progressive problem. It has created a toxic environment for minorities, especially blacks. The culture that has been created places them between a rock and a hard place. Poor schools that focus on progressive agendas, fatherless homes, and government bureaucracy that promotes unwed pregnancy as a subsidized way of life, lead to young men with no role models and no hope for a decent life.

Progressives teach minorities to hate those that supposedly enslave them: whites. Sadly, most progressive leaders are whites that either hate themselves, or love lying to the poor blacks – trying to create a tension that falls just short of a race war. Charles Manson would be proud of them.

The only way to save Chicago, before black kids kill each other and anyone else they become angry at, is to take over the city. We need to kick Rahm and the city council out on their back sides, bring in Rudy Giuliani, and return order back to the chaos in the city. It took tough guys to stop Al Capone. It will take tough efforts to make Chicago safe again.

Sixty years ago, the president sent troops into the South to desegregate schools, and stop local political thugs (Democrats involved in the KKK) from lynching black people. It is time to do this again.

I did not vote for Donald Trump. I am not a Trump fan. However, I hope that he can send in some smart people, who believe in rescuing the people from corrupt politicians, gang members, and progressives; so they can live in peace. Thankfully, we won’t have a radical progressive like Pres Obama sitting in the White House much longer.

The MoTab member who refused to sing at Trump’s inauguration is interviewed

Jan Chamberlin, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir member who refused to sing at Trump’s inauguration, is interviewed.

A few quick thoughts:

1)Sister Chamberlin seems like a nice enough person.  It is useful to put a face to a name and to see her express her views calmly.

2)I strongly disagree with her comparison of Trump to Hitler, and I think she will be embarrassed by this comparison over time.  Trump is certain to do bad things just like all presidents, but he will leave office in four or eight years, and all indications are Trump actually wants to avoid a world war, not start one.  If I were Jewish, I would be deeply offended by comparing Trump, who is notably pro-Israel, to Hitler and his concentration camps.

3)Not all MoTab members are singing at the inauguration.  Sister Chamberlin could have quietly told the leadership she didn’t want to go for this concert.  Instead, she deliberately took this issue public.  I suppose she would say her motives were in the best interests of the country, but I am skeptical.  I mostly see her actions as virtue signaling to her friends.

4)The choir is an important missionary tool and public symbol of the Church.  The MoTab also brings the Spirit of the Lord. Many people feel the Spirit in different ways and in different situations. You may not feel the Spirit every time the MoTab sings, but you may have felt it once or twice. I very often think of choirs of angels with I see the MoTab sing. I find myself thinking how extraordinary it is to see these people sing together in harmony and how great they sound. Everybody needs the Spirit of the Lord, even (and perhaps especially) President-elect Trump. If you are opposed to Trump’s politics, why wouldn’t you want him to be exposed to the Spirit of the Lord? What harm could it do?  Aren’t we supposed to spread the Gospel to everybody?

I am wondering if Sister Chamberlin is already regretting her decision to take this issue public. Or is she enjoying this 15 minutes of fame?  I honestly don’t know, but I think there will come a time when she regrets her comparisons of Trump to Hitler.  She has already taken down her Facebook post in which she makes that comparison.

Happy New Year!

2017 rang in quietly at my home. We watched a DVD someone got for Christmas. Five minutes before midnight, we shifted to TV.

We opened a couple of bottles of Welch’s Sparkling Grape Juice and poured it into cobalt blue goblets in preparation for the countdown. Then it was 3, 2, 1… And we all hugged and kissed as appropriate.

This was the baby’s first New Year celebration, but she’s always up for consuming food and drink. So she eagerly downed a tablespoon of white grape juice, her emerging teeth clinking on the glass.

A minute or so later, the juice came back up, with a bit more from other adventures in eating. Her father, duly decorated, went down to shower and clean both of them up. Then they fell asleep. And baby’s mother snapped a photo of her sleeping loved ones.

In a prior age this moment would have been remembered only briefly, possibly forgotten the next morning. But now we have a photograph. And now there is IMGUR.

“At our New Year’s Party, A girl drank too much, puked on my husband, and then fell asleep with him… Best night of my year!”

To the baby mother’s initial delight, the post started getting traction. Then IMGUR told her it was officially viral (at 300 likes). Then she started getting Facebook comments from friends who asked, “Is that your husband and baby on the front page of IMGUR?!?!?!?”

Less than a day after going live, the post has over 10,000 likes. And the author is both delighted and a bit anxious, because her IMGUR persona is a bit more outré than even the persona her friends knew in college.

May your New Year be delightful. May you have those around you to love and cherish. May you find deep truths that fill your soul with joy and peace. And may you live a life that in reflection brings a smile to your face.

Dubious Anniversary

Joseph Smith Red Brick Store in Nauvoo175 years ago Brigham Young reportedly attempted to convince Martha Brotherton to be his “wife.” The conversation between Martha and Brigham Young reportedly occurred in the Red Brick Store (pictured above). The exact date is not know, but the conversation almost certainly occurred in the latter half of December 1841.

Many have presumed that the conversation was a “legitimate” proposal that Martha become Brigham’s plural wife within the context of Joseph Smith’s teachings regarding Celestial Marriage and the New and Everlasting Covenant. After all, Martha claimed that Joseph Smith was one of the three men who spoke with her that day, urging her to accept Brigham’s proposal.

However it should be remembered that Martha placed Joseph Smith at the scene in an affidavit written at the express invitation of Dr. John C. Bennett, who was attempting to tarnish Joseph Smith’s reputation. From the contemporary journal of a faithful Mormon, it appears Joseph Smith felt Brigham’s attempt to coerce Martha Brotherton was a transgression so serious that Joseph feared Brigham would be struck down and die.[ref]Clayton, William, journal entry of June 23, 1843. See An Intimate Chronicle: The Journals of William Clayton, George D. Smith editor, Signature Books, Salt Lake City, UT, 1995, p. 108. [/ref] As discussed in my post Saul, Alma the Younger, and the tale of Martha Brotherton, it is plausible that Martha’s account was largely based on actual events. However the third man participating in the conversations Martha described was likely an unwitting Hyrum Smith, rather than Joseph Smith.
