According to this story, Elder Ballard in a broadcast last night asked Church members to step up involvement for the passage of Prop. 8.  The Salt Lake Tribune has a story with much more detail, pointing out that the broadcast also involved Elder Cook and L. Whitney Clayton and discussed how young people can use new media including, ahem, blogs to foster support for the Church’s position on Prop. 8. Volunteers are being encouraged to call family members and friends in California in support of Prop. 8. His call to action comes at a good time:  support for Prop 8 is growing. Church members’ efforts have to be a factor is helping people understand the issues involved.

The web site is a great resource for helping people understand this issue.  Please also note that there are similar measures on the ballot in Arizona and Florida as well.

In answer to Ivan Wolfe’s post below, in which he says he is an undecided voter and asks for reasons to support McCain, I propose the following.

Now keep in mind that I was a Mitt Romney supporter during the primaries, and I feel strongly that Republicans would be in much better shape right now with Mitt than with McCain. Also keep in mind I am not a big fan of McCain’s by any stretch.

But despite my reservations about McCain, there are still strong reasons to vote for him.

I would like to draw the attention of M* readers to a new page on this blog where we are gathering links, stories, videos and statements supporting traditional marriage.  As many readers now know, we support the Church’s position on traditional marriage and support Prop. 8 in California and other measures to stop the official government sanction of same-sex marriage.  Any news or stories that may promote this position are welcome.  Please e-mail them to editor@millennialstar.org.

The headlines are pretty depressing these days, and it’s tough to make sense of all of the apparent economic disasters around us. I have spent a lot of time researching our economic issues, and these are the three best articles I could find to explain what we’re going through.

To sum up: The source of the crisis is debt and a desire for “easy money,” which led to the subprime crisis, which led to the crisis we are in today. With the latest problems, we are most likely entering tough times, even tougher than the last few years. Many economists and observers don’t know what’s really going on and what to expect, because this exact type of crisis has not happened before.

But at the end of the day, a prophet has spoken on the things that are important during these difficult times.
