A special fast

Over the years, I have been impressed with the members of the Bloggernacle who have reached out to those in need.

Today I am posting a request from one of the people I home teach to join in a special fast for a family member injured in an accident. Here is the text of the email she sent me today:

Hi everyone,

Melody and Brett’s oldest, Carter (age 15), was hit by a truck at 9:00 this morning while riding his bike.  It was the truck’s fault.  Carter was not wearing his helmet and has sustained head injuries.  He is in the UMC trauma center pediatric ICU.  His vitals are good but he is in a coma and has been unconscious since the accident.  He has had a CAT scan but Melody is waiting to hear from the neurosurgeon as to the results.  I am going to go to Las Vegas later tonight.

Mike had a great idea to have a family fast.  If we ever needed one, it’s tomorrow.  Their names have been called in to the temple here and Mike and Diane have called their names in to the Snowflake temple.

I’ll keep you posted as I hear anything.

Please keep Carter and his family in your thoughts and prayers. The family appreciates those who can join them in their fast tomorrow.

Some unexpected hope

A week ago when I was pondering an Obama win, I was filled with dread.  I saw myself constantly worrying about the coming crises, worrying about the inevitable four years of recession that will be caused by higher taxes and more government involvement.  But I have surprised myself in the last day or two:  I’m actually hopeful.  Who would have ever imagined that?  Certainly not me. Threats against temples, churches, religious people in general

Ah yes, tolerance is bliss. That story has a nice rundown of the threats against temples, Christian churches, family members and others who dared to support Prop. 8. Watch out: your wedding may be targeted by picketers. Hey, Worldnet Daily included us in a story about Christians! That’s got to be progress, right? I wonder if California authorities will begin investigating these groups for hate crimes.

Prop 8 looks likely to pass

Pro-marriage amendments in Florida and Arizona also passed.  With 91 percent of the vote counted, Prop. 8 is up by almost 52 percent to 48 percent — closer than I would have thought but a majority nonetheless.   It seems to me the people of California (and Arizona and Florida) have spoken.  Now we will see if the courts respect the will of the people.

Sen. Hatch says the Constitution is hanging by a thread

Sen. Hatch’s comments will be familiar to most Mormons who have heard that the “Elders of the Church” will step in to save the Constitution when it is “hanging by a thread.”

Here is what Sen. Hatch (a Church member) had to say to Glenn Beck (another Church member) today:

SENATOR HATCH: Well, let me tell you something. I believe the Constitution is hanging by a thread. I’ve been fighting the save it for all 32 years I’ve been in the Senate and I think anybody who looks at it knows I’ve been in almost every fight that’s been saving the Constitution.
