How can Aristotle and St. Augustine help you give a better sacrament meeting talk? The answer is rhetoric. Continue reading
The peace of a priesthood blessing
My life is currently in a bit of an upheaval, with quite a bit of uncertainty and frustration and anxiety. (Believe it or not, it involves aliens from outer space and the CIA. Never let it be said that when my life blows up in my face, it isn’t interesting. If we meet in person at a bloggersnacker or other in-person event, I’ll share the sordid tale. By then I may even be able to laugh about it.) (And if you know of anyone looking to hire a totally awesome technical/scientific writer with almost 10 years of experience, please direct them my way. I’m looking for a new job.)
So anyway, with things falling apart, it seemed like a good time to get a priesthood blessing.
Non-Mormon Mormon movie: “Prince Caspian”
I took my wife and three oldest kids to go see “Prince Caspian” over the weekend. On the way back home, my wife said, “wow, that was like a Mormon movie.” And my kids nodded their heads.
How, you may ask? Well, for Family Home Evening we counted the ways.
Supporting the Church’s position on same-sex marriage
As some readers may know, the Church acted quickly yesterday to express its disappointment about the California’s Supreme Court’s imposition of same-sex marriage on the state (despite a 2000 initiative against SSM that passed overwhelmingly). There are very few public issues on which the Church has taken such a clear public stand, and in my opinion there are strong reasons for that. The purpose of this post is to gather the arguments supporting the Church’s position. Comments attacking Church authorities or the Church’s stand are not welcome, although there is room for discussion to refine and comment on the Church’s stance on this issue.
Here’s what I have been able to gather in a short few hours. Please post additional comments with links or arguments I have missed.
