With Halloween nearly upon us, it is time to consider the novel “Twilight” by LDS author Stephanie Meyer. I know, I know, “Twilight” has been around for several years and it and its sequels have been read by legions of faint-hearted, vampire-loving romantics. So, what can I possibly have to add on this subject?
Well, I wonder if we have considered how uniquely Mormon a novel “Twilight” is.
Some editors at the NY Times must have been asleep to allow this surprisingly fair story be published. Am I the only one who read this as actually kind of portraying Prop. 8 supporters in a positive light?
This story is one of the most interesting articles I’ve seen on Church members and Wyoming politics. The Republican candidate is heavily courting Mormons, who, although they are mostly Republicans, nevertheless include many Democrats. Cynthia Lummis, the Republican candidate is a member of a conservative branch of the Lutherans but once took the discussions and went to Institute. She has been endorsed by Mitt, and many of her campaign volunteers are LDS. Worth a read.
As Maggie Gallagher says, this is “disgusting.” Prop. 8 opponents are deliberately trying to smear Church members for daring to disagree with them politically.
