Introducing: Jeff Lindsay

M* is pleased to announce that another blogger has joined our team. Jeff Lindsay may be one of the best-known members of the bloggernacle. He was a pioneer in using the internet for apologetics through his page www.jefflindsay.com. His blog Mormanity is also well-known. Just for fun, check out the Wikipedia page on him.

Here is Jeff’s self-written biography:

Member of the Church living in Appleton, Wisconsin. Served a mission in Zurich, Switzerland. Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from BYU, 1987. At BYU, was in the same ward as Hugh Nibley and became fascinated with the richness of the LDS scriptures and began exploring LDS apologetics. Started a Website in 1994 and have been adding to it over the years. One of several hobbies. Married Kendra Larson and have four boys, one of whom is married at BYU and one of whom is on a mission. 1. Jeff, I enjoy Mormanity, as well as Cracked Planet, and visit often. Does this mean you will post less at Mormanity, or differently here, or what? I look forward to your posts over here as well.

  2. Guy, I will let Jeff answer for himself, but note that many of our permabloggers have personal blogs as well.

  3. I hope your spam guard is working well; Bro. Lindsay’s web site is a real bone of contention with the good folks over at that highly erudite rfm board.

  4. Wow,

This made my day. I look forward to reading you here in the future, Jeff.

  5. I knew it was only a matter of time before the final conservative was added to the mix, especially with the departure of good ol’ ebeneezar. One question though:

Could you have choosen anybody who could have reinforced the M* stereotype even more than J.L.?

  6. Jeffrey, I can think of a few. How about John W. Redelfs? Or Gary. I was also thinking of inviting one of our new commentators, LDS Patriot.

But seriously, I think a lot of the hype about conservative bogs vs. liberal blogs is a bit misplaced. There are plenty of conversations on BCC that we could have here and vice versa. And I miss Jon a lot.

And btw, I think there is some evidence that Jeff is not as conservative as you seem to think he is. He is zealous in defending the Church and its policies but his stances on many issues is more nuanced than you may think.

  7. JWR maybe, but Gary doens’t fit the stereotype at all. He is certainly a hardcore orthodox, but he isn’t mainstream enough. I also think that John’s posts might not be “intellectualized” enough. In my opinion Jeff embodies what M* is all about, relatively intellectualized yet main stream conservatism. Hence you have Clark, Ebenezer and now Jeff but not Gary or John.

That said, I don’t want to think that this is a fair characterization of all the posts here, only the authors who do post. I think that the conservative/liberal or M*/BCC distinction is a little overly hyped as well.

  8. Right Jeff G. We’re all raging right-wingers, politically, religiously, and economically. We tried to get Pat Buchanan and someone from Bob Jones University, but they declined to join our group of extremists.

  9. Jeff Lindsay! As we say in Southern California, “Most excellent!”

There isn’t a week that goes by where I do not reference his sites, and invite others to check them out. I linked his sites on my blogs, if for no other reason than I use them so much. This is great. πŸ™‚

  10. You couldn’t do better than Jeff Lindsay. I will certainly check in more often now. Good addition!
