This article proposes that Mitt Romney be appointed to head the new General Government Motors.  Obama gets to coopt another potential 2012 rival (and another Mormon one at that).  Mitt gets…well, I’m not sure what Mitt gets out of the deal but a lot of headaches and the thrill of being coopted, but that was apparently enough for Gov. Huntsman.

But more seriously, it is possible to see that Mitt might find the assignment interesting.  What if he is able to help turn GM around, just like he did with the Olympics? He could be another Lee Iacocca!

Of all the reasons to oppose Sonia’s Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court, the most important one is that she has led an incredibly politically incorrect life.

…and it’s not supposed to be.

BYU Prof. Noel Reynolds was the mission president in South Florida when I lived there a few years ago.  He used to give this presentation that I think is extremely relevant to our times.  His point was that in many ways it’s a lot tougher being a Latter-day Saint these days than, say, 130 years ago.  He said a lot more is required of us these days and a lot more is expected.

BYU-Idaho, in an attempt to maintain political neutrality, has decided to dissolve student political groups for the Republican and Democrat parties.  You can read more here.  If you would like some history on the on-and-off formation and dissolution of these groups, plus some on-campus reaction, I can recommend this article here.

It seems pretty clear that the BYU campus were concerned about the perception that the Idaho campus is heavily Republican.  The college Democrats were not prospering.  And the Church is very concerned about remaining politically neutral, but dissolving the student groups seems to me, at first glance, to be a huge mistake.

ARCHBISHOP BURKE: If a Catholic knowingly and deliberately votes for a person who is in favor of the most grievous violations of the natural moral law, then he has formally cooperated in a grave evil and must confess his serious sin.
