Notwithstanding the stark condemnations of Elder McConkie, you and I are actually not very far from being Catholics ourselves. One needn’t look far to see the great similarities shared by the erstwhile Great and Abominable and the Only True and Living.

Each church rests on an unwavering claim of authority, given by Christ, through Peter, his chief Apostle.

An Interesting Paradox

Assertion Number 1: Women who dress provocatively are partially to blame for the sinful lust they help create in men who see them.
Typical Response: You are blaming the woman for the man’s choice to sin, which conclusion makes reason stare!

Assertion Number 2: Women would never dress provocatively if men didn’t encourage them, by being such pervs.
Typical Response: You go, girl!

Anyone see anything logically inconsistent in these two conversations? Discuss.

Intimacy

One of the sad parts of living in a culture that both represses and glorifies sexuality is that you lose very good words like ‘intimacy’ down the drain of wasted, euphemistic meaninglessness. I frequently have need of the word ‘intimacy,’ but always pass it up in favor of something less descriptive, simply to avoid any awkward connotations.

But I’m not feeling so cowardly today.

When it comes to choosing a spouse, there are many resources to help you make the decision. Perhaps most ubiquitous of these resources is the collection of pithy truths offered in Sort-of Helpful Cliches on Marriage and Choosing an Eternal Companion, by John Q. Mormon, published by Everyone You Know (24th ed., 2005). This book has everything, from insightful treatments on the “How he treats his mother is how he’ll treat you!” principle, to in-depth discussion of the mysterious issue of “fat potential.”
