Reminder: marathon Friday and Saturday

Posted on September 25th, 2007 by Geoff B.

OK sports fans. It’s time for the T&S virtual marathon. M* has its team ready, but I’d like to hear from our participants to make sure they’re ready to run Friday and Saturday. The rules are below.

Here are the rules:

We have five plus one alternate (mmiles).

On September 28-29, you run two legs. I will assign the legs below. You don’t have to run in order. Just run as fast as you can during those days anytime you are able. You may want to run on separate days (these are Friday and Saturday — good, no Sabbath day running). Then, send me your times (geoff@millennialstar.org). I will then add them up and send into Kaimi from T&S.

1. 4.5 mi — Ivan Wolfe.
2. 2 mi — Edje
3. 3 mi — Brian D.
4. 1.5 mi — Keri
5. 2.5 mi — Brian D.
6. 1.5 mi — Edje
7. 3.5 mi — Geoff B
8. 0.7 mi — Keri
9. 2 mi — Ivan Wolfe
10. 5 mi — Geoff B

(Total: 26.2 mi)

First alternate: Mmiles, we are counting on you to participate if somebody else drops out for some reason. We’ll let you know by Sept. 28 if somebody has to drop out.

So, here’s what I’m doing: I’m running 3.5 miles on Friday morning and 5 miles on Saturday morning as fast as I can.

Are there any questions? Please check in to make sure you’re still participating.

Happy running, and don’t get injured.

    I’m still “go” for launch.

  2. Keri [Visitor] on September 25th, 2007 7:40 am

I’m still in! I’m looking forward to it. I’ll be running the 1.5 mile on Friday, and the 0.7 mile on Saturday, just in time to invigorate me for the LSAT.

    Go, team M*!

  3. Ivan Wolfe [Visitor] on September 25th, 2007 8:01 am

    I’m a go.

  4. mmiles [Visitor] on September 25th, 2007 1:56 pm

I’m ready. Just make sure I know by the 28th.

Ok, we just need to hear from Brian D.

  6. Sarah [Member] on September 26th, 2007 11:31 am

    Keri, you are my hero.

    Good luck everyone!

I heard from Brian D. He is asking is mmiles can run one leg for him. So, Brian D will run 2.5 miles on Friday and mmiles 3 miles on Saturday. Does that work?

Yes, it gives us six members on the relay team, but we’re doing this for fun, anyway, right?

Mmiles, we feel great that you are joining us on this futile, quixotic quest.

    GeoffB–
Done. It’s all in good fun.

  9. Geoff B [Member] on September 28th, 2007 10:56 am

OK, I did my 3.5 miles today. Not too bad, 25:53. Please let me know the times of the other team members by Saturday so I can send to Kaimi. Thanks, team!!!

  10. Brian D. [Member] on September 28th, 2007 11:23 am

    I ran 2.5 miles in 22:50.

  11. Geoff B [Member] on September 28th, 2007 11:25 am

Alright, Brian D! Almost exactly a 9:00 pace, just as predicted.

  12. Keri [Visitor] on September 28th, 2007 2:20 pm

    I ran/power-walked my 0.7 in 9:58.

  13. Geoff B [Member] on September 28th, 2007 4:12 pm

Good job, Keri. Now we need to hear from Ivan and Edje.

  14. Edje [Visitor] on September 28th, 2007 6:52 pm

    1.5 miles in 14:54.

  15. Geoff B [Member] on September 29th, 2007 3:05 am

Edje, great job. Now we just need to hear from Ivan. Let’s see how everybody does today. I’m heading to the gym in an hour or so.

  16. Ivan Wolfe [Member] on September 29th, 2007 6:49 am

    Here we go:

    4.5 miles in 48:12

    2 miles in 18:27

I probably could have done the 2 miles faster, but after running 4.5 miles yesterday, my legs were rather sore. Oh, well.

  17. Geoff B [Member] on September 29th, 2007 7:31 am

Ivan, great job. I did my five miles this morning in 37:47, a time with which I was quite pleased. I’m training for a half-marathon, and I want to break 1:45, so it looks like I’m on track. My Ipod included the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the B-52s and Talking Heads, as well as the old standbys of the themes from “Chariots of Fire” and “Rocky.”

    Great job so far team.

    3 miles
    29 minutes

  19. Geoff B [Member] on September 29th, 2007 3:36 pm

Mmiles, that’s great. Thanks for joining our team. We just need to hear from Keri and Edje and we are done!

  20. Keri [Visitor] on September 29th, 2007 7:18 pm

1.5 miles, 21:04. (I walked this one. I’m more out of shape than I realized.)

  21. Edje [Visitor] on September 29th, 2007 10:16 pm

How typical of me to be coming in last…

    2.0 miles in 19:50.

  22. Geoff B [Member] on September 30th, 2007 6:55 am

Great job, everybody. OK, let’s add this up to get our marathon time:

    1. 4.5 mi — Ivan Wolfe — 48:12
    2. 2 mi — Edje — 19:50
    3. 3 mi — Mmiles — 29:00
    4. 1.5 mi — Keri — 21:04
    5. 2.5 mi — Brian D. — 22:50
    6. 1.5 mi — Edje — 14:54
    7. 3.5 mi — Geoff B — 25:53
    8. 0.7 mi — Keri — 9:58
    9. 2 mi — Ivan Wolfe — 18:27
    10. 5 mi — Geoff B — 37:47

(Total: 26.2 mi) — 248:14 or 4 hours and 8:14. Not bad at all, faster than I’ve ever run a marathon before :)

(I hope I did the math correctly — please let me know if there are any errors).

Thanks for running with us, M* team. It was good to have you in the event — lots of fun.

(And — pending hearing from BCC, FMH, and ZD — M* may have gotten the fastest time.)

Awesome! Probably the only footrace I’ll ever win. I’ve posted a photo from the relay on my blog.
