Note the Joseph Smith Translation verses in bold

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled by letter, except ye receive it from us; neither by spirit, nor by word, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for there shall come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work, and he it is who now worketh, and Christ suffereth him to work, until the time is fulfilled that he shall be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that wicked one be revealed, who the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.

9 Yea, the Lord, even Jesus, whose coming is not until after there cometh a falling away, by the working of Satan with all power, and signs and lying wonders,

  1. What I understand from these verses is; when the The Second Coming of Christ is soon to be upon us, the 12 Apostles will warn the world.

  2. I am projecting my opinions and thoughts, but I think the warning will come in the form of an official proclamation to the world. I wonder if there was an official proclamation how much press it would receive and how many of the world would take heed.

    I agree, warnings have always been with us. I think they were more stringent earlier in church history than today. The birth of Christ was prophesied hundreds of years before He was actually born. We need to watch for the signs, but bear in mind He might not come in our lifetimes.

    Thanks Brian and Geoff for stopping by to comment.

  3. I’ve never thought of how the warning will come, interesting thought. Your post reminds me how important it is to heed all warnings. Church leaders give us many warnings; food storage, live with in our means, etc.. sometimes we listen, sometimes we kind of listen, sometimes we don’t listen at all. If I am not willing to heed all of the warnings, will I be prepared for this one?

    Loved the comic, will be putting get a dog on my to do list, I don’t want to miss the warnings 😉

  4. Sista Laurel, I know (of) you! Aren’t you one of the lovely women interviewed on Nobody Knows? You are the actress with a sweet husband and bunch of cute kids.

    Thanks for sharing your blog with M* and it’s readers. I enjoyed reading it.

    You are correct of course, heeding the warnings is important. I think that people who “feel” the spirit telling them the 2nd Coming is imminent, are mistaken. They are often times people who are attracted to the Whoo Whoo Factor. Christ may come in 2010 or in 500 years, we just are not privy to that kind of information. We can look for signs of His coming. However, our best bet is to follow the counsel of our leaders; be self sufficient by taking care of our own, and be charitable toward others. Doing so will prepare us for the trials that will certainly come in this mortal state.

  5. Interesting how this economic crisis was preceeded by about a year of _increased_ messages from church leaders to get out of debt and put an emphasis on food storage. I remember noting that the intensity and frequency of those messages increased in 2007, and then in mid to late 2008, the crisis hit.

  6. True that Bookslinger. They called to our attention what we should have known anyway. Banks lending way too much money, with balloon payments at the end of the lending period, to just about anybody. In my neck of the woods, several LDS people lost it all borrowing way too much thinking the big ride would go on forever. IMHO LDS people are often susceptible to the desire to look successful to the world, as a gage of their righteousness.
