Is Obama’s pastor’s rhetoric relevant?

From a Mormon perspective, the rhetoric of Obama’s pastor is an extremely delicate issue. The reason, of course, is that there are those on the right and left who have basically disqualified a Mormon from being president because of their perceptions of LDS religious beliefs. So a Mormon has to be extremely careful discussing these issues.

But let me try to wade through them as best I can and invite respectful comments.

The Tragedy Of Not Having The True Gospel

My friend called me this evening with some very sad news. Her friend, who is only 29 years old, stopped breathing last night. They took him to the hospital where they put him on life support. They have determined that he is brain dead and they will be taking him off life support in the morning.

When you hear news like this, even when you don’t know the person well (or at all) it shocks and saddens you. He has a wife and 2 small children. I can’t imagine what they must be going through. As soon as I heard this, all I could think was, if only they knew, if only they had the comfort of the gospel. I know things are still hard when you do have the gospel, but we have something that so many do not. We have a knowledge of the happiness to come.

You will be assimilated in California

Ok, so you are the parent of kids in California public schools. Last year your supposedly Republican governor signed SB 777, which added new, superfluous “anti-discrimination” language to already strict laws prohibiting sex discrimination in schools. So, you’re wondering what this means, and you’re a bit worried because California judges can make some pretty wacky decisions sometimes. So, you’re thinking, worst-case, if the schools get really bad you can take your kids out and home-school them.

Wrong.

Some of those same wacky California judges just decided you can’t home-school your kids unless you’re a teacher. Even the LA Times calls the decision “regressive.” In a news story! The Borg have taken over California policy-making. You will be assimilated!

We believe our slow server is impacting our mysql database and corrupting the comments in the  database. We contacted our hosting service and they have offered to move us to a new and faster server. This server move should take place by Friday.
