Once again, I am plugging the work of another relative. This time, it’s my dad, Romney Biddulph. He has written the following very interesting book review of a new study on teenagers and religion. One of the key issues is why LDS teenagers show the “highest degree of religious vitality and salience.”

The Role of the Bible in the LDS Church
Two very interesting posts at T&S (as well as the ensuing discussions), have got me thinking about how we approach the bible in our church. This is not a new topic for me, despite my complete lack of familiarity with the scholarly knowledge-base surrounding it. And despite that ignorance, I thought it might be worthwhile to re-publish an old post of mind about my difficulties with the bible, to see what thoughts it might elicit from the very sophisticated audience here.
The Invisible Clauses of the Eighth Article of Faith
The Eighth Article of Faith reads as follows: We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.*
*and we mean “translated correctly” in the loosest sense, contemplating caveats for historical omissions, bad-faith additions, and all the weird stuff that’s just too strange to accept.
The most dangerous minds on the net
“The Shadow of that Hideous Strength, six miles and more did shoot in length”
Last week I posted some thoughts about LDS blogger caricatures over at a bird’s eye view. Two days later a mysterious new blog appeared. The Shadow’s first post, entitled Caricatures, is a critique of some of the bloggernacle’s most prominent blogs where you will learn, among other things, that the Fowles brothers are the most dangerous minds on the net.
I get myself in trouble yet again
In this thread below, I mention that my wife has some pretty insightful thoughts on feminism and Mormonism. Of course, this raises the obvious question: what are they? And of course I never thought to ask my wife whether she minds my posting such a challenge on the blog without consulting her. She is not much of a “blog” person and indulges my hobby because she loves me. But I keep dragging her in.
Guest Post: Language Use in the Book of Mormon
Submitted by Bryan Pocock
I am constantly amazed by the little things that can be found in the scriptures; the multiple meanings that provide various layers to the simplest of verses. These are the things in the Book of Mormon that a simple farm boy from upstate New York could never have come up with himself. He probably would have chosen a much simpler construction in many cases.
