Nice write up.
A quick correction: Though November 20, 1841 was sort of the first official day of baptisms in the temple (they also did baptisms for health, and rebaptisms that day), Baptisms for the dead were fairly commonly performed outside the temple before this. Also a couple of weeks before the 20th, the day the font was dedicated, Rueben McBride was baptized for the dead in the Temple font.
