Sad comments from our evangelical brethren

I really prefer to offer up-beat commentary and news on M*, but I couldn’t let these comments go by without pointing them out.  It truly saddens me to see so much hatred from our evangelical brethren for the Church and its members.  Yes, I know that anonymous comments on a blog can be ugly and unrepresentative, but still, these comments are so over the top that I am hoping that we can help shine some light on these sentiments so that hopefully we can start changing perceptions about the Church.

The matter at hand is a story in “World” magazine, which is primarily aimed at conservative evangelicals.  The post itself is straightforward — looking at the Pew report, it points out that Mormons are in many ways more politically conservative than evangelicals.  But many of the comments were, to be quite honest, uncharitable at best and downright evil at worst.

Random Mormon Poll #6: Which religion would you choose?

Feel free to explain your vote and why you chose the religion you did.

Update: New poll added. This one should work!

Who says we’re not Christian?

This web site says we are.  In fact, they have named M* among the top 100 blogs for Christian moms.  So next time somebody claimed Mormons are not Christians, you can just point them to this list.

But more seriously, this is a pretty interesting list of web sites.  Take some time to read some of the blogs listed there if you haven’t before.

Edna Anderson’s funeral was this week

Every once in awhile, you meet someone who really was and is a pioneer, and it puts shame to the “we are all pioneers” platitude we like to tell ourselves.

Edna Anderson’s funeral was this week, and I am not the best person to write a eulogy for her.  But I felt someone ought to let the wider world know.  Edna really was a pioneer, and though she will likely never have her story told over the pulpit at General Conference, it should be. I also made a short poem to be displayed at her visit site, where you can pay your respects.
