A Temple in France? Ben Prognosticates…
Posted on March 22nd, 2006 by M* Ben
I see…in General Conference… a Temple, to be built near Versailles in France… but no two-hour block… unless I’m “channeling” the spirit of Fawn Brodie, in which case I predict nothing

Update! Watch and listen to a story on it here.
http://jt.france2.fr/20h/index-fr.php?jt=0&start=998
If it doesn’t work, try www.france.fr
-Click on the left on “JT en video”
-Choose “20heures” news broadcast in RED
-Then, halfway through the news “Les Mormons ont acquis un grand domaine
près de Versailles” 20h15m42s
Edit: on second view, I can’t find the story in the video. It’s simply missing from where it should be. Que’est-ce qui se passe la, eh?

For the francophones out there, here’s a nice link to a video clip.
Doh! I didn’t see the update!
I can’t find it in there, either… where did you get the 20h15m42s?
From the email my sister sent to me.
Ah-ha! I figured it out - the default newscast if you go to 20euhres is for TODAY (e.g. March 22)
The Mormon story is on March 21…
so in the right corner of the newscast, underneath the names of the stories, click on Les Editiones Precedentes
and then click on 21 Mars 2006 edition.
And right in the middle, at 20h15m42s is the story!!
I find it interesting that most people hold some kind of ‘cult’ stereotyping. In the article, it was mentioned that missionaries offer trips to the US as a method of recruiting into the Church. Man! I wish I had contact with those missionaries. In the video, a young woman tells that she has a problem because the Church, as most of those ‘evil sects’, are a danger to the children. But most of it reduces to ’since you don’t belive what I believe, you are a cult.’ I know a couple of temple workers in the London Temple that come from France and would be delighted to serve in the Paris Temple (if it was to be constructed). I guess that there is a greater need for communication so that these archetypes about the Church could be disspelled. At least at the institutional levels, there could be a greater understanding of what the Church does. I find that her comments on the ‘repression’ of women in the Church to be quite misguided, if not disingenous.
I do not think that the temple would be announced in this coming General Conference, but probably in October, when all the necessary permits and the land has been secured. Right now it is only speculation, although it would be very nice to see another temple being built in France. Lets pray that the time is right for this to be accomplished.
The story was better than some, but I’m not sure my wife would agree with the above. I would love to see a temple built in Paris.
I came across the following blog which is following this development very closely:
Villepreux Autrement
The comments, both negative and positive, are very interesting to read.
An interesting comment from Michel P.
Justin, good stuff. Thanks for linking that. Michel P, Allez!
The Church confirmed it is looking to buy the land but did not confirm temple plans yet. I would like to point out that the Church often looks for large tracts of land for various reasons but that temples don’t necessarily get built there for years even when the Church closes on the land.
