OK, I’m ready for the slings and arrows. I was finally able to see “The Work and the Glory” on DVD this week. In a few words, I loved it. But just so you know, much of the world hated it. Still, it’s a movie I can heartily recommend.

For the last couple of years I’ve been increasingly bothered by the pledge of allegiance (I’ve got two boys in scouts, so I’ve had many opportunities to pledge). Just recently, I’ve stumbled across this web page, which explains a bit about the history of the pledge (yes, I know there exists other, perhaps better, sites but this was the most recent I’ve read).
Does it matter that the pledge was instantiated and propagated by a socialist?

Today’s Wall Street Journal features a front page “editorial” from President Monson. Okay, it isn’t an editorial, but a story on the rising level of debt & bankruptcies in the United States, with a focus on Utah, and particularly, Mormons.
Elder Oaks made some fascinating comments about current LDS dating habits during the May 1 CES fireside. I will give lengthy excerpts below, but to sum up: young LDS men and women need to pair off more and grow up and get married. No more hanging out like the folks on “Friends.” This is what I would term a serious “call to repentence.”
